In the end of June is going to start with force in Coimbra a telemedicine project in the medicine respiratory area, that allows the patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to follow in the health centre, avoiding travel to the hospital. With project it will be able to follow the patient with COPD in the health centre, which the examinations will now be made and passed that normally were made at the  Hospitals in the University of Coimbra (HUC).

The COPD is considered by many a very incapacitating illness. It is a major cause of death worldwide and affects about 5.3 percent of the active population ports.

The tendency is to increase this figure due to factors such as smoking and pollution. The Coimbra Pneumo XXI has costs of around 265 thousand euros, which investment is recovered the end of the fifth year of the project implementation, according to John Paul Almeida. The telemedicine platforms, developed in partnership with PT Innovation, may also be used in consultations of weaning or smoking in lung cancer, advanced the two responsible.
